the latest from Charlie Herf's wife Patti on
their daughter Allison's fight with cancer.
This is Patti's update from yesterday and the latest on Allison. Prayers needed.
I arrived here yesterday afternoon , to find Allison in terrific pain, weaker than just a few short days ago, and with the help of Lindsay's friend who is a Dr. @ UCSD , I determined we needed to get her to E.R. immediately..she was crying out in pain while saying "no no E.R." then that was quickly followed by "help me...help me", so, i drove her to UCSD E R and when we arrived her heart rate was low and they couldn't get a blood pressure reading and she was ready to collapse..fortunately, because there were 25 people in E.R. ,which would have taken several hours to get admitted, they admitted her immediately ...this was at 6:30p.m...at once the Drs. began a myriad of tests and scans..she was vomiting blood from her mouth and it was terrible ...they finally decided at 1:00a.m. that she needed what they called "life saving" surgery or she would not last another 12-24 hours, i had the surgeons explain everything to her as i was too emotionally upset to make the decision by myself.. by this time, also, Charlie and Lindsay were driving over from Az. Allison was able to say the word "yes" that she would have yet another surgery but they had to find out the cause of the bleeding.. at 2a.m. Lindsay and Charlie arrived and they told us what they had done around 3a.m., when they opened her up to find the cause of the bleeding, they found a small hole in her intestine adjacent to the ostomy, which meant that whenever she ate anything, some and then more of it was not going into the ostomy bag, it was going all over her abdomen...this was truly a frightening situation, so, we waited until we could see her in ICU and then drove to Allie's at 5 a.m. this morning...they are keeping her intubated and sedated today as they will go back in tomorrow to make sure they got everything bad out of her abdomen...meanwhile the brain tumors are larger and more of them and they can't begin that treatment until she recovers from this..they said she will be in the hospital for 2 weeks for sure...i was able to stay strong in front of Allie but when i was out of her sight in a hallway, the tears were flowing ..i'm taking care of thing s at her place today, laundry, etc.et.c and Charlie and Lindsay are going to go up and just let her know they ar ethere, she cannot speak and the Drs want her to stay asleep so they won't stay long and they are bringing boxed goodies for all the staff, they were wonderful to her ..very caring and attentive...so, i'll update as the days progress, please keep her in your prayers , she needs all she can get...thank you, Patti
