I've pondered the thought of what would be a useful single choice of gun to use on an outing like that. Definite choice for me would be between a .357 or .44 Magnum. One could use hot ammo or the specials. I really like the 8-3/8" M27 S&W for handling and frugality of components (perhaps that is just heavy on my mind right now) compared to the .44. But the .44 is indeed versatile too. Both for revolver and carbine.

My Reeder Wichita classic 6-1/2" in .356 GNR has an extra cylinder, two actually, a .38/357 and a 9mm. Would that be cheating? Ditto for my Reeder custom .429 GNR SRH, a quick cylinder assy. swap and it shoots any straight walled .44 from mag. on down. Not that shooting .44 Russians are in vogue but I sure could!
