Reeder Custom Guns - "Trigger" words, UPS shipping

I found today that UPS has come up with a new list of "trigger" words for the contents description, to instill greater scrutiny or opening to inspect packages before shipping. They do have the right to open any package before shipping. But all they have is the right or authority to do is refuse to ship it. They cannot hold your property.

A new guy gave be some crap (he was nice about it) over a "BLANK" chemical sticker on the box I used. So I cut it off with my pocket knife, and made him put a piece of tape over it so it would not look fresh. He asked me again what was inside the box, "stainless tooling like it says". So he checked his new list of trigger words and that was not on there. FYI The shipping Natzis (no triggering - sp) are at it where it may cause you some grief. Maybe all these loons are shipping dope or something.

"Trigger" words are widely used in the media, advertising, email (spam) and shipping. It allows workers to kick there brains into neutral until the computer forces them to focus on something others deemed noteworthy. So it goes.

I could not find the list on-line with a superficial search.

And pay their $20. Fee, it’s still cheaper insured USPS, that FFL’s can use, than me taking one to fedex or UPS to ship. Because of too many disappearing packages, they want you to ship over night, which costs you much more, and saves them from their bad employees

me and tell me to ship it myself! If I MADE him he'd charge me $25 (since he's required by law to log in the piece) plus the $20 ship fee. It's not too bad for me to drive over and ship, it cost me $11 rather than $45.

Just didn't want anyone to get heartburn over some new policies they might not know about. Even if you disassemble it (like shipping to GNR) they may want to make a big deal out of it, IF it hit a trigger word. Few of the employees know their own company policies, making the issue even more volatile.

I figure the "trigger" words are what the employees were keying in on to do the stealing. Maybe "metal items for repair" is a better description that would not raise a thug's curiosity.

In this last year or so a lot of new rules have come about from UPS. We now have to measure the exact size of the package along with the weight and go by a chart with the sizes and the prices they charge. If you tell them it is a firearm going to a manufacturer for repair they will very seldom give you any hassle. I have had a couple of UPS Stores call and ask for a copy of our manufacturers license which is no big deal. UPS and Fed Ex send us rule changes almost weekly and I have never seen where it is a law that you have to declare a firearm. UPS is a private business not a federally run operation. So they can't make up their own federal rules and enforce them. Personally if a UPS Store got snotty and started giving me a hassle I would go elsewhere.

of condoms. With the new prices based on the size and weight of a gun, one revolver. shipping plus insurance. is running us right at $45. And that is a standard custom revolver, not a large oversize one or a $5000 revolver where the insurance is much more. So if you can get a gun shipped for $20 you better jump on it or give your FFL guy a big kiss.
