Alot of Alaskans we ran into or knew loved there Glock 10mms 20 and 29. I told them it would be a good backup gun to a 454 or 475 or 500 Lb! Would be neat to have a long slide G29, 29 frame and 20 barrel and slide. Hmmm

Don't agree with what he chooses for a sidearm, but good info from a bear attack survivor. In the end he trains to use spray , the simulation is fast, but bears run faster!

I just don't think I would trust an automatic in a heavy caliber for use against dangerous game, I had a Grizzly in .45 Win Mag and it was pretty reliable but there was always a chance of a hiccup. I tried a .460 Rowland on a Springfield and it was a stove piping son of gun, so if I know I'm in the vicinity of something that could eat me I'm sticking with a good ol'revolver of some sort, be it a Blackhawk or Redhawk in the biggest caliber I can handle. To me there's just to many things to go wrong with an autoloader in the big calibers .44 and up, I wouldn't even consider a 10mm, I sold my Glock 20 back in the winter to a guy who wanted it for a backup while he was elk hunting.

I love mine, one is a blued .44 that was originally a 7 1/2 inch gun that I had cut down to 4" and the grip frame round butted and the other is a stainless factory 4" .45 Long Colt that is bone stock. There still kinda chunky compared to a Smith N-Frame but damn you just can't beat there usefulness! shoot any realistic load you want and you don't have to worry about it, hell for stout and I think they actually look pretty nice when there 4" and have a round butt grip frame.

came back to the remains of my moose kill and had to climb a small rise with three guides about ten feet apart, left to right.... All three had their rifles shouldered looking down the sights with each step. Having not shot a big bear at that time I realized they knew a hell of a lot more then me... [image]

trying to take on a big bear with a 10mm before all the know it alls shut up. And probably even then they will blame it on the shooter and not the 10mm cartridge.

A 10mm (one of my favorite calibers) is absolutely not enough for back up for bear. Power wise it is slightly more than the 357 Magnum, but less than the 41 Magnum. A couple of idiots took the 10mm to Africa and shot a Cape Buffalo (which after they emptied their 10mm at him took 4 more shots from the PH with a 458 Win Mag). That was what got a lot of idiots (in Alaska and elsewhere) thinking it was plenty of power for large bears and such. Any moron that goes out after a bear with a 10mm needs to check his life insurance policy first. By the way those morons with their 10mms got their PH in a lot of trouble as semi autos are not legal in South Africa. Somehow they monkeyed with the paperwork to make it look like their guns were revolvers.
