Reeder Custom Guns - I was working on a 5.56 Galil yesterday....

I am not real big on the AK platform but they are pretty simple and straightforward. the Galil is not all that modified but is made more sturdy. BTW I have several AKs.

This one was stove-piping and jamming the next round up, every time. My examination turned up it was very, very, dry and dirty. The carbon was built up and rock hard. I can't remember seeing another gun that was actually dusty on the inside! A good cleaning and lubrication with the correct materials had it running fine. BUT an inherit trait is the rather rude treatment of brass the Galil seems to impart. The notch hammered into the cartridge base is from the ejector, a thin solid metal protrusion milled into the sturdy receiver. Also the side dents reveal the ferocity the ejection imparts on the spinning empties. They generally eject 6' and about 2-3 O'clock but every once in a while you'll get a 20 footer! I think you could kill a chicken with one of those. But generally speaking you can reload them a few times.

Overall it has some nice features and they seem to work well, they are serviceable. You could bludgeon someone with the sturdy mags.

and they don't worry about what the brass looks like when it comes out. Have you ever seen the brass out of an H&K 91 in 308. Deep grooves all down the sides of the brass. They say that is so that any debris that is in the chamber will be thrown out imbedded in the brass, keeping the chamber area clean. At least that is what I was told by a fellow that worked on the 91 and 93.

The NAZIs fled to Argentina and basically adapted the German design for that military. Later they morphed into H&K and the M91. It was a good gun though, just clunky and rough on brass. But for an army rifle getting the brass out and another in trumps being subtle.

I kept the L1A1 though, even though they don’t shoot quite as accurately. There is more to fiddle with on it.

The Galil, an Israeli AK, is intriguing.

while but never could get them to make the customers happy. Constant jams, problems extracting and so on. We would call Century Arms and they would send us parts but the parts they sent were always used parts which just caused additional problems. We eventually just dropped them. This was in the mid 90s to around 2000.
