8 million acres of National Forest, most of which are pine trees. Most people, when they move here, want a lot of trees surrounding their houses. They don't realize that makes them much more prone to have bad forest fires near their houses. We only have a few blue spruce in the back yard and a few spruce and aspen and cottonwood trees in the front yard. We have 2 acres and most of it has no trees on it. This was a bad fire a couple of years ago in front of our house about half a mile away. Fortunately the wind was blowing it away from us.

This is another one that was a bit farther away from us and never came over the mountain toward us.

This one was in front of our house and again the wind was blowing it away from us.

As you can see we are surrounded by pine trees. This is on the way to work last year.

Usually when we get a lot of rain during our Monsoon that means we will have a heavy snow year. In 2017 our house was pretty much covered in snow.

Had to dig out to let the dogs out.

It probably won't be that much snow this year as it runs in cycles but we hopefully will get a good snow year.

wow, that snow would shut most towns around here down

wind rather than snow. The wind tore several sheets of metal roofing off the stable. We had maybe a foot of snow or a bit more when I climbed up the ladder with all my tools to fix the roofing. It took me 4 or 5 hours to get the job done. When I came back down the ladder the snow was all gone. No mud, no slush, just like it was never there. That is how our snow is out here due to the very low humidity, usually 10% or so. We never have ice storms. It just snows and then a couple of days later it is all gone until the next storm comes thru.
