Concocted my own lube. Do you have a nice recipe?

I use the TC bore butter or used to use plain old Crisco vegetable shortening. It did get messy in the summer.

YOU ARE RIGHT ABOUT MESSY. MY CURRENT RECIPES ARE

50:50 BEESWAX/MUTTON TALLOW; 50:50 BEESWAX/CRISCO; 50:50 BEESWAX/VEGETABLE OIL. DON'T THINK ANY WILL BE SOFT & MESSY.

There also seems to be some using olive and coconut

Can't be as oil nor as solids. Do they whip the oil into some thicker consistency? I'm probably missing something obvious as this is NOT an area I know much about. Thanks for any reply! :o)

OIL IS MIXED IN SMALL QUANTITIES

TO SOFTEN BEESWAX. I USE EQUAL PARTS OF BEESWAX AND MUTTON TALLOW AND LITTLE OIL ALL MELTED TOGETHER IN THE MICROWAVE.

Thank you Sir, makes sense to me.

posting results of your tests here, or are you working on an article for publication? I'm especially curious about that beeswax/mutton tallow, should be very similar to what the British used prior to the Sepoy Mutiny (or were they using straight mutton tallow?)

MAYBE BOTH. PURE MUTTON TALLOW

IS EVEN SOFTER THAN CRISCO AND WOULD BE VERY MESSY.
