freak as I am. I got this gun on a trade a week or two ago. It is an unusual S&W in that it is a 657 with a 7 1/2" barrel and unfluted cylinder. I did some engraving years ago for the old gentleman (including his initials which I now have to take off). The old fellow said I did the work in late 2001. If so it sure is in good condition to be 20 years old. The gun is "as new" except for the engraving. I am still arguing with myself about doing some more engraving as I have to take his initials off anyway and then rechambering it to 41 GNR (which is one of my two favorite revolver calibers).
Anyway just wanted to show my newest baby off to James, another 41 freak.

mine has done for me. It would take a couple of semi trailer trucks to haul all the critters my 41 GNR has taken thru the years. I chambered that gun in 1978 if I remember right so even after 43 years and countless rounds of 41 GNR the gun is still going strong. Several scopes have bit the dust and I went from a Contender frame to the G-2 frame but the barrel itself is still super accurate.

If it was slightly bigger I would be taking it to Africa with me for the African lion. And I know it would do the trick if I had the perfect shot, but with a 600 lb lion doing 30 MPH at me I doubt I would have that perfect shot.
I am taking it's larger cousin, the 429 GNR in a revolver along with the big boy, the 510 GNR, also in a revolver.

engraving on your 657 is just about perfect.... Also, was talking with Andy Strauss about his 41 GNR revolver and I said that I think that you really like the Sierra 220gr jacketed bullet in your 41`s because he was thinking of a bison with his 41GNR. What do you think???
also want to say that my enjoying the 41

has come about as I`ve gotten older cause my 475`s and 500`s are`nt as nice to shoot as they use to be... The 41 is so darn nice to shoot and my only complaint is that I did not own one sooner....
if he can find some silhouette bullets he

needs to grab them. I think they are called something else now. But they come in 170 and 220 grain from Sierra. I have taken 7 Bison, bull elk, 3 Watusi, couple of Yak and all have been with one shot each with the silhouette bullets. One shot 4 inches behind the ear and they drop like a rock. You have about a 2" square spot to hit. If you miss that spot get ready for a long tracking session. This is only with the silhouette bullets, no JHP or JSP.The 41 Silhouette is shown here the part number looks like 8530. I think they call it a flat point jacketed now.

and you and Puffy rolled up on a BIG water Buffalo. I saw it all. You took one shot with the little .41 GNR and it was like a bolt of lightning hit him. It just flipped the switch, turned him off, he didn't eve quiver.
I knew you had it loaded with those Serria bullets and I would not have believed it unless I had not seen it myself. A very treasured memory. So I got me one rigged up to commemorate all your successes, except in stainless. I got to be me.
very good. You can take over where I leave off

It actually belonged to Andy Rowe. I think James blew a scope at the Y-O on his .454. When I met him he was taping up his hands where the gun had cut him up good. He looked like he had given a Leopard a force fed pill.
Andy was in his hunting party and loaned James the .41 GNR to try on the Ram. His shot went a little wide but it bled out. Good thing as if it had escaped, with only one drop of blood found, that's some $3500 pissed away even if you never saw it again.
I think I had sold that gun to Andy, then a few years later, bought it back after the .41 GNR conversion. I added a free spin pawl and action job, some grips, and a new set of sights, to go with the 4X Leupold I chose. It's a sure thing for a go to gun. I even have another cylinder in .41 Remington for emergencies.
metoo! all I own is .41s except for my 9mm
