How feasible would it be to scrounge a sound

A real 120 yr. old Colt feels like nothing else. It's not really about practically. But there is an invisible line where I might pull something off like that. I have some Mausers I put together for not much more than what 2-3 "good" hunting rifles would have cost off the rack. But done in pieces over time was very satisfying and the end result is a memory of an adventure in effort. A good condition Colt SAA is well north of $2500 now unless you wait to find a deal. The Bisley's sometime can be found a little cheaper due to their unusual look, which I like. Me and Pancho Villa that is.

You meet people, learn things, make mistakes and correct them. It's more than a sum of parts assembled. Think 5-6 Christmas mornings all spread out. You are right that a $600 or so instant satisfaction would be more practical. But sometimes that is not really what you need.
