the gun stuff for them. Colleen is going to be in Maryland for the big JRTCA meeting of all the big wigs. So Noodle (you remember him) and I will be doing the gun stuff at the dinner. We got several large boxes of rifles in over the past couple of weeks as raffles and give aways at the dinner. And guess what the calibers are. Nope, no 7 mag or 300 mag, or 30-06 or 338 mag or any other decent elk cartridge. The 2 large boxes we got today (around 12 long guns) were either 6.5 Creedmoor or 6.5 PRC. The Elk Foundation must have got all the left overs from the distributors as the 6.5 cartridges and guns are dead in the water right now. They have run their course and just plain don't sell. Plus every fall we get the 25 to 30 year olds in our shop talking about shooting a bull elk at 700 yards and the elk just walking away. Then they don't follow up to see if they wounded the elk. They just go looking for another one. These wannabe snipers are the ones causing a lot of us to hate the 6.5 Creedmoor. Now that I have pissed off the 6.5 Creedmoor lovers out there, remember this is my opinion only and should not be construed as that of a sane man.

The 6.5 PRC is still getting a few folks in for ammo but very few, mainly because the ammo for it is extremely hard to find. We got one case of it a month or so ago but nothing since. Plus the 6.5 cartridges (except for the 6.5 Remington Mag and the 264 Win Mag) are not bull elk cartridges. It is going to be hard telling the folks that win or bid on one of these rifles " Congratulations, you got a great rifle" and under my breath "just as long as you don't use it on a bull elk".
I hate doing these dinners and normally Colleen handles them. But I will smile and try to keep my opinions to myself and my big mouth shut Saturday night and let the 6.5 lovers have a great night.

everytime I go in my local gun shop the owner does his best

to sell me one of the 6.5 Creedmoors he has on the shelf that have been there for weeks. We don't have any elk here in Tennessee but I am just not into long range shooting at game and the guys that own the 6.5 rifles that is all they talk about, how they can shoot a deer across a 1000 yard soybean field. Just not my type of hunting.

Yep, 6.5 Creedmore rifles can be

Found in every gun store here, some ARs but no 7mm, 308, 30-06 rifles. Looks like all the wannabee snipers haven't gobbled them all up yet. I have had a hankering for a 6.5 x 55 for a long time though

that 6.5 X 55 is a different horse. It is a classic and

not just another Creedmoor. There is a difference.

Yep, old but reliable I think

BUT I'VE READ A LOT ABOUT IT - AND HAVE SEEN QUITE A FEW VIDEOS OF GUYS IN SWEDEN OR OVER THERE SHOOTING WHAT WE CALL MOOSE OVER HERE -- BUT EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM WAS 100 YARDS AT THE VERY MOST -- AND ALL DIED FAIRLY QUICKLY -- SOME STOOD THERE FOR 20 SECONDS OR SO & THEN STAGERED A FEW STEPS & KAPUT -- OR TROTTED 15 YARDS OR SO & WENT DOWN
I'VE SEEN A FEW GUYS TALKING ABOUT THE LONG RANGE CAPABILITIES - BUT I'VE NEVER HEARD ANYONE TOOT THE HORN THAT THE OLD SWEDE WAS A 400-500 BIG GAME CARTRIDGE LIKE YOU HEAR ABOUT ALL THE NEW STUFF
HERE IN OKLAHOMA I'VE DEBATED BETWEEN THE 6.5X55 & THE 7X57 FOR ANYTHING I MIGHT POSSIBLY RUN INTO
NOW THAT THE INFERNAL PIGS HAVE MOVED IN I STILL THINK EITHER ONE OF THEM WOULD DO ME GOOD
THEY CAN KEEP ALL THE NEW 60,000 PSI THUNDERBOLTS AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED

6.5 X 55; 7 X 57

But it was a .45 cal 3000+ psi and about like a .45 Colt, plus he sneaked up on him. Really "hunted" it. Hats off to real hunters who have to stalk.

I can't shoot all that well so I HAVE to sneak closer.

mine was shot at about 65 yards with the 41 GNR, in
