think 3 is really necessary but I plan on bringing them. If all goes well my main gun will be a custom encore in 378 GNR. I am bringing 2 backup revolvers. Should anything happen to my 378 I can (in theory) use one of the 2 back up revolvers which are a 429 GNR and a 510 GNR. Both have scopes on them which is not required but recommended. I figure if all goes well I will take the scope off my 510 GNR and carry it in a crossdraw holster and my 378 in my hand, as I normally do. The 429 will be a just in case gun. The scope can also come off it but it is sort of a back up for the 378, with more range than the 510 has. So all kinds of plans, any of which could go south at the last minute.
Not knowing what game you will be hunting puts me at a disadvantage here. If you are going after anything up to bull elk size, my choice in a revolver would be the 429 GNR. It has the power of the 454 but being a lighter weight bullet it shoots faster and flatter with less recoil. Of all the guns on my in stock list the best all around gun is the Kodiak Hunter, in 429 GNR, the color cased gun. It comes with rings for scoping it and has had a full action job and is very accurate. It's not cheap but no high quality revolver is going to be cheap. I have taken a large amount of critters with my 429 GNR Alaskan Hunter.
The stainless Redhawk, our Trail Hawk, in 410 GNR would be a good one but with the shorter barrel wouldn't be quite as good an all around hunting revolver as the Kodiak Hunter.
The 429 GNR is one of my 2 favorite revolver calibers, the other being the 41 GNR. But with large dangerous game in mind I opt for the 429 in the Kodiak Hunter. Hope that helps.
