Reeder Custom Guns - grizzly .50 AE

Guy just posted a LAR Grizzly .50 AE for sale on the local gun site, 3 grand. I bought one about 20 years for 800 bucks and like a dumbass I traded it off. I would've have never thought those guns would bring that kind of money!

which seems quite collectable. Of all the semi autos of that type, the AMP felt the worst but was as accurate as a rifle, the Desert Eagle is just a beast and unwieldy to me. My son has a .50 AE and loves it. The Grizzly .45 was not too big and as accurate as a tuned 1911. The power was enough but not too much. Alas I sold them all, just not for me. But I'm blessed to have given them a try. I built a custom hot .45 Super +P and it can almost do anything a Grizzly can, and holds 13 rounds. But I don't shoot it much.

I need a single shot for power and a cylinder for anything less than rifle ability. Plus they don't throw my brass in the bushes.

I had the .50 and 2 other grizzlies in .45 Win Mag, I thought the .50 was pretty bad recoil wise so I sold it but the .45's were pretty fun. I sold them because I just didn't shoot them very often and I like revolvers better but they were cool. I just got rid of my Wildey in .45 for the same reason plus it was to big and clunky to carry. It was neat looking though. I've always wanted an original .44 AMP but there way out of my price range.

I have a 40 super Gov. model and a 45 win mag Grizzly. I just bought a new 44 auto mag. I killed a 250 lb hog with one shot at 60 yards with the 40 Super at last years HHC, Also killed a large fallow deer with the Grizzly.

guns. But like the dingaling in the post below me said the 45 was the best of the bunch. Kase and I have had several and the 45 was the most reliable and with the JSP bullet would stop just about anything. And I still prefer the original Auto Mag.

of course most of the ammo is purpose made, little jewels each round, but the platform is astonishingly accurate. The grip didn't fit my hand and I had trouble getting a consistent grip and the front sight was stainless like the old S&W revolvers and Walthers. Mostly invisible to me getting equal portions of light on each side of the blade in the sight picture. I found it surprisingly reliable in respect to bullet styles too. I even shot SWC in mine, that should not work at all but did.

But by golly it flat stacked the bullets when I got it right. Someplace I have a clip of Gary shooting a sheep at a far piece using those iron sights back in his prime. He was more worried about the empty brass hull which was flung into the grass (the sheep was done). Of course spending 15-20 minutes to make one case will get you doing that, so I'm empathetic. It's a great video clip.

wouldn't have taken with any other semi auto with iron sights. I don't remember the range but it was well over 100 yards standing on my hind legs shooting at a steep uphill angle . And I got real lucky and hit the sheep again as he was still moving and I wasn't sure where or how bad I had hit him. And you are right I wouldn't try that shot these days.

357 Auto Mag, and hit him twice at that range. Even in "my prime" as WB said I could never do that.

To say Lee was my inspiration to get good with a handgun would be an under statement.

Lee called me one afternoon and said he would be at the Linebaugh seminar and asked me to join him there. I never hesitated a minute. When I got there I hadn't seen Lee in years and I half expected to see him in a T shirt with his silly ass beret, and it about killed me to see him withered away by cancer. We spent 3 days talking old times and talking about the things Lee wanted me to do, like the Howdahs, his handgun takedown tool and his memorial handgun. He knew his didn't have long and was anxious to ask me to do these things for him. He was so afraid people would forget him.

A man has to have heroes. And unfortunately the young folks these days have very few shooters to look up to. My heroes have been few thru the years but when your heroes are the best friends too, you are truly blessed.

Those are some cool pics, I've got a few gun hero's I wished I could've met, guys like Roy Weatherby and Frank Pachmayr and of course Skeeter Skelton and Elmer. In the '80s when I was a kid I read John Taffin and Ross Seyfried, that's why I love custom big bore revolvers so much, cost me a lot of money but I've enjoyed the hobby. Most of the gun magazines today write articles about stuff I'm not remotely interested in but I still get Guns every month. I do enjoy Brian Pearce's writing and I think he's the real deal and seems to have knowledge. I enjoy this forum because most guys on here know a lot more than I do and I learn stuff.
