Here's Patrick McManus telling the bicycle deer story

my wife knows when I'm reading McManus at bed time by the bed shaking and my attempt at muffling the guffaws. His talent is in describing things in a way that you can fill in the blanks. He wrote about his "mountain bike" that was "built by a local fiend with his own three hands" or something along those lines. He drew the picture so perfect that he says that folks will come up and say "I had red bike just like that!" or "I had a green bike, just like that!" - and he never once mentioned the color, just drew the picture so good with words that you can fill in the blanks from your own experience. He and Samuel L. Clemens are my two favorite humor writers of all time.
