What are your opinions on rechambering a 625-3 .45 ACP to the .460 Rowland?

I would rather have a sister in a whore house than a Rowland

How to put it nice as possible

Rowland has Character issues. The cartridge is stolen from the 451 Detonics. For all practical Purposes it the same cartridge , just loaded hotter with modern powders. And when I say hotter I have seen “factory “ ammo loaded so hot the primer flows back into the firing pin hole in the slide. A spent case has a spike sticking up off the primer. There is nothing a Rowland will do that a 45 super won’t do. Lee Jarras was loading 45 acp to supper Velocities safely before Rowland was born. I won’t go into the farm animals thing because its likely roomers

I invented the Rowland before he did, misread a measure

And .454 Casull’d my 70 series .45 ACP with a righteous overcharge of Unique! Luckily I was shooting cast bullets. I had to pull some ammo afterward. The primer looked Un-fired! My 1911 Govt. torqued and almost jumped right out of my hand.

Later I experimented with a custom Glock I built. Blake has studied the topic at considerable length. Beyond what the Rowland guy (tried to charge custom ‘Smiths royalties for making guns chambered for .460) did Blake used long throating and special chambered muzzle brakes. This is the same thing Roy Weatherby used. The bullet is pushed out of the case before actually engaging rifling, increasing capacity, and thus reducing pressure. Really effective in a breach locked semi-auto. I accidentally doubled the throating depth and it still works! 230 gr. (Cast only) at 1400fps! The only useful aspect of the Roland is the mimic of the longer case as in the .451 Detonics to “hopefully” not accidentally shoot it in a stock .45 ACP. I tested the limits and then dropped back to 1200 fps for hunting loads. The cast bullets have less pressure and smoother spikes.

Some of that “don’t do this at home kids”. Alcorn blew a case in his 1911 factory conversion standing next to me. It’s flying real close to the sun.

Thanks for the answers

I don’t want to try to make it a magnum but want a little more oomph than what the ACP provides. Would a .45 Win Mag work in a 625 or is that pushing the envelope too far? The reason I picked the Rowland is because of Clark rechambering them to .460 Rowland

Ammo is another reason for the Rowland

I was going through my ammo stash and came across a bunch of Georgia Arms .460 Rowland ammo from back when I had a Model 25 .45 Colt cut for moon clips

The load data with Longshoot and 23o gr. bullet is wrong. It is 10.0gr t0 12.0 gr. It should be 10.5 gr. to 11.5 gr. If you want to hot rod a 45 get a Ruger Blackhawk in 45 colt.

RIA 1911 to shoot 45 Super? Heavier recoil spring?

ideally a ramped barrel and heavy duty springs would suffice

but 45 Super brass would be even better.

pull the bullets and use the bullet and cases

The Win. Mag. factory load (not custom loads)

is relatively mild in pressure. I think the factory 260 gr. power point is rated at 1200 fps +/-? That would be fine in the S&W but I'd not want to push it past that with some crazy custom ammo. That's about the same as the Rowland or .45 Super but in a much larger case.

Plus it still shoots all the shorter ones in the full moon clips.

PLEASE SPELL LEE'S NAME CORRECTLY

I myself wouldn't do that, I don't know what kind of pressure the Rowland runs at but I know the one I had on a Springfield 1911 was high, it flattened the primers. In my opinion it's hard on guns, I took the barrel out and sold it. It was a Clark kit, thought it would be neat to try but I ran less than a box of Underwood ammo through and decided I didn't want to tear up a nice pistol. I just get one of my big revolvers out if I want more power than a .45 ACP has.

As mentioned the only reason is so you don’t

Accidentally shoot the rounds in a stock .45 auto. Go for a .45 Win Mag re-chamber and keep the loads to factory spec. That would be viable and still shoot .45 ACP or close out .45 GAP ammo. Or anything in between. Just limit to the 25k cup spec.

The S&W is not as strong as some others, such as Ruger, DW, or even Taurus big Trackers.
