Shawn Deremer (affectionally known as Dr. Douche Bag) and unknown on the right. But he must be a good dude or Anthony and Shawn wouldn't hang around with him. 3 good Javelina and all with handguns. Can't tell what Anthony is using but it appears Shawn is using a 500 S&W (think you got enough gun for a Javelina Shawn?) and the unknown appears to have a Dan Wesson.

Was blessed for some years to live in the Greater Prescott area and got to meet many an ol' timer, living from just north of The Valley (Phoenix) to Flagstaff, on remote ranches or alone in the hinterlands. They regularly hunted old mines, stagecoach trails, historic washes and abandoned ranches. .32-20 was the largest caliber of specifically chosen ones but the vast majority used various smaller calibers down to an specifically including .22 Long Rifle. And there was a good sized group who only owned one handgun, so they used it, whatever it was. Some had reloaded the same box of brass umpteen times with their various collections of hand tools, casually doing so on-the-go. Quite fascinating to me to watch the next days rounds being assembled around the campfire as tales were told with seemingly no attention at all being paid, ie, by 'rote-memory'...

It was in .38 Long Colt. He killed 3 bears with it. They all said it was a big gun.

Down here they talk about the "38 Largo", meaning a 38 spl revolver with a 6" barrel. Same in Brazil, the longer barrels were considered "big guns", even though they were the same caliber as the 2" and 4" that were more commonly carried.

Having traveled 'down south', my experience with the term down there was always about the 38 Super, for which there was a great reverence. A nickel-plated, full-size, Colt Government in that caliber was thee gun, bar none ... and really got serious technical attention when Irv Stone developed his barrels (Bar-Sto) with a supported chamber.
