A great book for anyone interested and Remington Sixguns : "M 1865, a revised version of the "Pocket Repeater," was introduced under the title "New Repeating Pistol." Versions were offered, both based on Elliott's patent of October 1, 1861. The "#1" was five-shot and fired the .22 caliber rimfire cartridge, while the "#2" was four-shot and use the .32 caliber rimfire cartridge. Based on surviving serial numbers, approximately 19,000 of the #1 and 25,000#2 New Repeating Pistols were manufactured between 1865 and 1866... The #1 Smoot revolver was introduced about 1875... In about 1877, the #1 Smoot revolver was replaced by an improved #2 Smoot revolver. In addition to being available in .32 as well as .30 rimfire chambering, the #2 Smoot and improved ejection rod. Based on serial numbers as high as 2936, researchers believe only about 3000 #2 Smoot revolvers were produced between 1877 and 1885."
