1885 454 Casull on Gb

I thought they were discontinued in the early 1980's, but they may have made some other runs special. It is a modernized copy of the original John Browning 1885 "High-wall" action rifle. The "low-wall" has less metal on the sides and was a smaller action for lesser calibers. The story goes that John M. was bitching about working on the old Sharps and such rifles and his father told him to "do one better it he thought he could", the 1885 was this product.

I like them and have always kind of wanted one to play with. But they are expensive for what they are and heavy too. As with most single shots the hanging of the forend always presents a problem as to accuracy. The "hangar bar" technique is often explored and used to a degree of success.

The .454 is an odd one, I think Ruger did that too in the No.1, I know they did a .475Linebaugh. But you can shoot cheaper pistol ammo too. A unique version of this rifle for sure.
