Reeder Custom Guns - Thank goodness the boys have their own money...

My two boys are really getting into the gun bug stuff. Not in directions I personally enjoy but at least they are getting into the hobby. Roman loves this tactical and exotic crap that I dislike. Mostly Russian and AK type stuff. But he's actually done well if he would actually SELL while it's astronomical and buy something "good" (LOL). Alas, old Colts and S&W are not his thing, yet anyway. He just bought some special first run, two tone, FN 5.7 pistol at a nosebleed price as a whole kit with ammo. I shot one at HHC and while cool, it's not THAT cool (to me). Maybe I'm just an old coot.

Little Benjamin (bigger than me now) had a piston AR carbine I gave him. He sold it and is building one like he wants. I'm helping him of course. It's OK, I like the AR stuff and we are doing it together. He's into casting and loading for it too. I've been smart with him and transitioned him to J-frame and K-frame .38/357 revolvers. Roman is a lost cause so far, semi-auto exotica. LOL

My dad was only lightly interested in guns and shooting that I loved from an early age. At least we had some around and a good farm to go shoot them on. I was blessed. My hope is the boys (my daughter too) will enjoy a more intensive sport firearm environment than I had. With this comes discipline and self confidence. I'll not sweat the specifics and personal flavor of the types of firearms and just enjoy the time spent together. We have it good right now.

if it launches a projectile, I'm fascinated by it. If I had the money and lived where it were possible, I'd have a collection going from slings and atlatls to crew served weapons and artillery, with everything in between. That being said, I still find myself favoring sixguns and singleshots.

It's good to hear you've managed to pass your love of firearms and their responsible use on to the next generation. My younger son, the Marine, tends to favor Glocks and other "modern weapons", but retains the old style firearms I've passed on to him over the years. Seeing a new generation growing up with similar ideals is a good thing.

And let us all shoot it some. It’s just a little hotter than a .22 WMR rimfire but with a more advanced “rifle type” bullet. The ammo looks cool but is expensive and a little hard to find sometimes. The 5.7 is a “blow-back” type action cartridge (new Ruger too) and requires some special re-loading considerations. Not for the beginner.

I think the pistol shoots a 40 gr. at 1800 fps where a WMR runs about 1400 with a 45 gr. The little 30 gr. pill May run faster but I figure it needs some barrel to gain much.

That is great! You and the boys are building memories that will last a lifetime. I hope they develop your sense of curiosity and become ones who push the experimentation envelope. Maybe they will be posting on here one day and running Gary crazy like their father does. I hope you got to enjoy this cool Arkansas morning.
