Some of my latest loading fun…

I’m learning pyrotechnics for my flare launcher (26.5mm) to keep Coyotes away from our goat herd. They frequently come at least within a couple hundred yards and howl at night. We’ve seen them in the yard even in daylight. Never when a gun was in hand!

I’m working on “bird bangers” for a pyro projectile. The aluminum case is charged with BP for a “lifting” charge to launch the projectile.

The flare “casing” is actually the “chamber” on a flare. The projectile does not actually touch the bore. It’s very much like a pea-shooter. I was going to record my first efforts but the sturdy Polish version of the Radom model I have would not “lock” on a primer loaded case. I’ll have to thin the case rim at the front a few thousandths in the lathe so the mechanism will lock and cock. Not unlike a TC Contender.

I’m more than a little cautious of the things and timed fuses and such. Still doing research. The legalities allow for pyrotechnic results for signaling and to scare predators. But you cannot cross the line into “explosives”. That’s a NO-NO. Pyrotechnics stick to BP and substitutes or specialty chemical powders to create color or effects. It’s a bit advanced as to loading but something interesting, fun, and harmless. Thought ya’ll might find it interesting.

THE COYOTES WILL HAVE THEIR LAWN CHAIRS & SNACKS & ICED TEA OUT THERE
WATCHING THE FIREWORKS

A couple I made only flashed, resting them.

There is some science to it, to make it go bang! I’d love to learn the parachute techniques too. Without setting the woods on fire. Lol

I believe they use rocket motors for that

And the rocket motors burn through the top of the cartridge to push the parachute out. Should work the same for your “bird bombs” (coyote bombs?)

I read in Vietnam the jungle canopy

Would foil a conventional flare. Gyrojet pioneered exactly what you described, a rocket “motor” to penetrate higher than the thick canopy. You can still find the 1960’s launchers for about $50. Flares are mostly roll your own.

THAT'S FOR SURE

IN TWO DIRECTIONS WE'VE GOT MAYBE 45 FEET BEFORE YOU'RE IN THE JUNGLE
IT WOULD BURN LIKE MAD AS WE'VE HAD NO FIRE COME THRU HERE IN 40 YEARS OR SO
YOU'D PROBBLY SEE IT FROM WHERE YOU ARE
