with 15 years or so ago. I had 100 frames cast and had planned on running a series of 100 of the #5 revolvers on them. Unfortunately the gun I had plans to make and I had a written OK from Ruger to use the Ruger old model design on these guns, ran into a snag. Unfortunately two of my employees let rounds off in my shop by accident and that made me have some second thoughts on the project. Most of the young shooters of the day had never used or handled revolvers with no transfer bar safety. I figured if 2 of my employees, who were in their early 30s, who handled guns every day, still had 2 accidental shootings in my shop, how many other young people might do the same with possible fatal endings. After a couple of weeks of thought I dropped the series after only maybe 20 guns had gone out the door, and accepted my loss, which was considerable. Here are a couple of the guns that were made.






After all this, I had a second frame cast that was much like a Ruger single action but was considerably beefier. This we called the #6 frame, saying that if old Elmer Keith was alive today this is what he would be shooting. This frame came in blue or stainless and we built almost the series of 100 of these labeling them the #6. On most series we hold back 5 or 6 guns in case a gun magazine wants one of them for an article. That way we will have the frames to build that gun. So I think there were 94 guns actually built in the series of 100 guns. Here are a couple of the #6 guns. There are a few #5s in the group. These were customers that wanted a gun listed as a #5 but we weren't building any more #5s so we built them on the beefier #6 frame for them.
