Morning! Went to my LGS a bit ago with my great friend Dave. He was going to look at a 1911 ParaUsa(?) in 40SW so I tagged along. I was leaning on the revolver case an noticed an odd looking J frame in mint condition. I asked to see it and the clerk gave me a soliloquy on the calibers obsolescence, the “fact” that revolvers are “old technology” and how I should be looking at a plastic 9mm.

I thanked him for his wisdom and the owner of the shop told him to shut up and just show me the freek’n gun. I enjoyed that very much!

Anyway, it is a SW m31-1, 3”, sq butt, no cylinder ring. Home it came! I found 2 boxed of 100gr wad cutters from fiochi and fell in love with it. Luckily, I have a good supply of components for the 32 as I had Gary rebuild me a Single Seven in 32fed a few years ago.

Currently loading 100gr SWC over 2.5gr of 231. Kinda like’n this little guy!

My mother had a S&W model 31 32 S&W long in her night stand for years. I bought a box of 100 gr. semi wad cutters Remington, I think, for her.

S&W 631 that shoots 32 long just fine

I was trying to do a deal with a friend for one like that years ago, but he died in a motorcycle accident and that was the end of that. The 32 SWL is one of my favorite calibers. When setting up to load for the 327 Magnum earlier this year I picked up several hundred cartridge cases of 32 SWL, double what I'd thought of originally due to Starline doing a run of the brass I'd backordered before they did 327 Magnum (which is STILL on backorder 10 months later).

Anyway, a 3 or 4" 32 SWL makes a dandy little popper. Small game and targets of opportunity tend to fall readily to it. Someday I need to get one myself as we had to leave my wife's in Brazil when we left there decades ago.

That was the first gun I bought for my wife

I've never actually owned one in .32 though, mine was a .38 Special 5-shot. The .32 guns hold a full 6! I have had many Colt Pocket Positives and Pocket DA models, Police Positives, in both .32 "Colt Police" (what Colt called the .32 S&W Long) and .32-20 Win. I still have .32 Long Pocket Positive.

I also have a 4" SP101 in .32 H&R. I don't think I've ever fired a H&R Mag. round through it, only .32 Long and ACP.

BTW usually you can shoot .32 ACP from any .32 S&W, short or long, .32 H&R or .327 Federal. The only issue to look for is a short firing pin, it's a little loose due to the teeny thin rim. SA guns fare well but the DA guns need to be pointed skyward upon ejection to prevent the little rims from jumping the ejector star. But that technique works just fine.

.32 ACP personal defense rounds ARE available, JHP (Hornady Critical Defense, Speer Gold Dots, and Federal Hydra-shocks). You'll likely not see any in .32 Long. As mentioned they shoot fine in my guns.

I bought two boxes of it a few years ago. I don't know if they have it available now.

Thank you! I was able to get 2 boxes of fiochi WC.
