Catching Bullets

I ran a couple penetration tests today with the 9mm, seeing how the bullets performed. Using Bear Creek Supply's 125 gr. cast and moly-lubed bullet.

I had 3 loads I wanted to test and decided to shoot them into some wadded up rags and catch the bullets. That way I could see the power level of the loads and see how the bullets held up. So I set up the catchment.

The first load I fired was 2.0 gr. Bullseye in a Russian primed 9mm case that I had laying around. Fired into the first rag in line, the bullet stopped in the second rag.

It penetrated almost 6"

The second load was my target/plinking load of 3.5 gr. 700X

This load penetrated nearly 12"

The final load was 7.9 gr. Blue Dot .. this load sailed through 5 wadded up rags and 3 1" boards before stopping in the next-to-last rag.

The bullet went low, hit the bottom board, grazed the 1" board and stopped in the rag behind it.

It penetrated almost 2 feet.

Fun stuff. If you try it, have a good backstop someplace behind it all.
