people have gone crazy buying guns. Any gun, any price.

We got a gun in for a fellow a day or so ago that he bought on the internet. The gun is a Makarov in 9X18 caliber. Now a year or two ago you could buy Makarovs for $250 or less just about anywhere. This one may be new. Hard to say with the rough finish on it. Came in a ratty box that someone had written his name on it with a black Sharpie. This one is a Russian model of recent manufacture with importer stamps from KBI on it in several places. The Blue Book says and I quote..."Recent commercial models with the adjustable sight are currently selling in the $150 to $175 range". The ad which the fellow bought it out of said it is "available in the rare 9X18 caliber". 9X18 may be rare these days because everything is rare. Other than that it sure isn't rare.
So, knowing all that what do you think? Maybe $200 in like new condition? That is what I would think. Unfortunately the fellow paid $951 for it with shipping, credit card fee and taxes. Someone once said there is a fool born every day...or something like that. Or maybe it was a fool and his money are soon parted. Either way I hope that fellow had a lot of money to spare and really wanted a Makarov in his collection.
