Empty Bang

This is interesting (to me). I emptied my loading room, which is a spare bedroom, for new carpet install. After it was empty I used the Kirby vacuum to vac the old carpet. I have no idea why. As I was vacuuming where the loading bench was, there was a load bang. Thought I blew the Kirby but I think I sucked up a live primer and it went off. I have been known to drop one on rare occasions. Had to check out the Kirby and the bag, make sure all the dust didn't catch fire. Figured I would share this as FYI

Years ago I used to smoke.

I used an old piston from a Pratt & Whitney R985 as an ash tray. I had been pulling some old black powder loads that had failed to fire and dumping the powder into the old piston. And forgot about it.

The next day I was doing something with some empties and lit up a cigarette. I put it into the ash tray and BLOWIE .. old primers, cigarette butts and ash all over everything.

I bet you called that ash tray some ungentlemanly

"poop" ... we didn's say that in polite company. I heard hell and damn and such from the hellfire and brimstone preachers when I was growing up. Some of them used other words when not in the pulpit.

for almost 25 years while I was in radio I seldom

used really rough language. It is a rule when you walk in the control room whether you are on the air or someone else is, no cursing.
In one instance when I first got into radio I worked at a radio station in McCook Nebraska. Our news director was scared shitless of anything with feathers. He has been attacked by a rooster when he was 4 or 5 years old and was still scared of them. He was right in the middle of a 15 minute newscast and had stopped for a 2 minute commercial break. Myself and another of the young and dumb DJs thought he was going to be off for the 2 minute break so we eased the door open and pitched a banty rooster in the door, not knowing that the 2minute break was over and he had just opened the mike and was live, just starting his sports cast. He saw the rooster, jumped out of his chair, backed toward the wall screaming "sonofabitch, get that fucking chicken out of here". It got quiet for a moment as he ran out the door. Thank the Lord I had the sense to sit down real quick and continued reading the sports stories. The funny thing is we never heard a word about that.

After that I always tried to keep a clean mouth while in the control room. That was when I was in AM radio. When FM went rock, in the late 60s I switched to FM and FM was deregulated so a hell or damn every once in a while was ok. But I still tried to keep it clean. Then after retiring from radio in '85 and getting into this "man's world" with 5 or 6 machinist working for me the language turned raunchy real quick and I learned that Mother is only half a word.

Really expensive Rainbow vacuum cleaner. It had a water collection device that you had to empty each time you used it.

Well. One day I was reloading shotgun shells and accidentally dumped a bunch of Red Dot powder in a shag rug.

All I can say is that cleaning a shag rug with that expensive vacuum wasn’t the best idea of the day.
