Having problems loading 429 GNR for a Marlin 1894 conversion. I bought the dies from Gary and he built the rifle.tried to load and the bullets are so loose, I can apply light pressure and the bullet just falls in the case. I am using Starline brass and different bullet all with the same results. Talked to Gary today and went over all the possible issues with no fix. Gary thinks it could be the dies. Any guidance or tips would be appreciated. I am going to call Hornady tomorrow and then call Gary. thanks

240 grain XTP 300 gr Nosler 300 gr jhp. 300 gr hard cast all three measure the same 0.43 .the hard cast and XTP fit better on the edge of the cantilever they will probably back out under recoil. Thanks

new sizer die. My guess is the mouth of the case is too loose. That is my guess. In all the 429 GNR dies we have sold, as far as I can remember we haven't had any other problems like this. We have built several hundred 429 GNR rifles and TC barrels and it just plain works. The folks at Hornady, especially Ben Syring, are good folks and they will take care of the die problem. If all else fails, let me know and I will send you mine. I know it works.

Tension. I have gotten away with 310 gr. bullets (cast) but less is better for bullet pull in revolvers. I only neck chamfer and seat, lightly crimp. I modded my crimp part on the Hornady die. I think I thought it was bottoming out on the case shoulder so I shortened it on the bottom.

If I go to my load area I'll measure a fired case ID, case mouth thickness of my brass, and sized ID for you to reference.

around that. The trick is to crimp it a bit and see if it will go in the chamber. If it does then crimp it a bit more. Do this until you feel it rubbing nard on the inside walls of the chamber and it is hard to go all the way in. Then back off to your crimp before that and then lock the die down. I have loaded literally thousands of 429 GNR ammo and once I found the sweet spot for the crimp I have never had a problem. I took it as one of my main cartridges for my recent lion hunt. I sure wouldn't take a cartridge that I don't trust for a hunt of that type.
But all of my short neck cartridges will have that problem if you don't do a good crimp on the case.

Custom factory crimp die. It cost 35$. Give them a call. Well worth it.

I have the same issue with my Hornady 7mm GNR dies. The size die doesn’t come close to sizing the cartridge neck enough to hold the bullet even with the expander removed. I slightly squeeze the case neck with a pair of pliers, just enough to hold the bullet in position, then crimp with a LEE 7-30 Waters factory crimp die.
