I think I see some dropping in AR prices

I wonder what backlash this high profile court case will foster. Everyone will want their own AR? Gun grabbing goons will turbocharge their lust and focus on the AR platform again? (I heard one Black commentator say Kyle used an AK47!. Tried as hard as he could to make it a racial issue. But only Caucasian folks were involved. But it was at a BLM riot.)

I have several AR types I've customized for different purposes and enjoy them all. 9mm pistol, 5.56 pistol, .350 hunting carbine, and a sort of retro A2 5.56 rifle. I had a heck of a time finding a "pencil" 20" barrel to convert my HB into a handier rig. The old school A1 looking guns and parts were sky-high. I wanted an A2 but the lightness of a Vietnam era A1.

I've had a .450 Bushmaster and it was fun. But lately I've been looking at the .458 SOCOM for some .458" bullet fun.

I figured that everyone in my house needed

an AR-15 so I started stocking up whenever someone came into the shop wanting sell a factory AR-15 (I won't buy a home made gun, too many wannabe gunsmiths out there). So with me and Colleen and a dozen Jack Russells that means I need 4 or 5 more to have one for each of us.

The muzzle blast on a short 5.56 is massive

I've often wondered why it seems so horrific. Almost like a belted magnum hunting rifle. In the house it must be really bad! I have tactical muffs (Roman has the 2-way radio fitted) that act like hearing aids too. Cool, but I'm not sure I'd just sit around with them on. But they do give you bionic ears.

I am no expert on the subject .. however

in what little experience I have had shooting in high-stress or high-anxiety situations, I never heard the shots and did not notice the recoil.

This side of a .50 BMG the 10" 5.56 gets your attention.

But I agree, your body somehow diverts all systems to focus on your preservation and somehow hearing harm is not in the mix. Shooting a short barreled magnum handgun is horrific too. I have done it in my youth and I'm paying for it now.

You were a cool dude if you had a set of Air Force "muffs" to use shooting. I was proud of my little ear plugs with the metal one way valves too. I thought it was proper kit.

Roman has a 7" AK in 7.62 that is very blasting. Like getting slapped in the face!

I agree with Jim. In a hunting situation I

have never heard the shots. I normally will hear the bullet hit the animal but never the shots. Way back in the late 70s and early 80s when I was shooting in the combat games I never heard the shots. Back then I probably should have worn ear protection but it really wasn't available back then other than putting cotton balls in your ears. Even now when I shoot in our combat matches I don't normally wear muffs but that is with a 45 1911 and to me that is just a dull boom.

I don't know why but in a stressful situation I never hear the shot, even with a short AR-15. On the last African hunt when I jumped down off the Land Cruiser and walked up on the wounded lion I could hear John, our PH, a few yards behind me telling me to go slow that the lion was still alive and John was talking in a low voice. I could hear him but when I fired the last couple of shots into the lion to keep him down, I never heard them.
I don't know why but it just is.

MY EXPERIINCE IS THE SAME AS JIM'S AND GARY'S

Most LE units involved in building clearing use suppressors to avoid permanent loss. You may not hear that blast during the actiion but it will still surface later.
