Reeder Custom Guns - Considering a CCW for my daughter

She's college age and I have to pray fervently every time she leaves the safety of the house. It's my JOB. Tori has experience handling firearms but in a panicked tactical environment that is lots different. Even for me! Tori really likes shooting the Beretta 92 family and wonders why she just can't drop that in her purse and go merrily on (M92A1). Perhaps she has a point. lol

I need HER to pick it so it keeps her engaged, connected to the piece. She MUST have it with her at all times. She will be undergoing formal AR Enhanced CCW training next Spring. She does not like the small rigs I currently have and offer. The revolver seems to work but I dunno. The NA Arms .22 WMR are cute and popular with old men. LOL, like my Uncle Lloyd and Alcorn to name a couple. They work and are little flame throwers!

I'm taking her shopping soon. We'll look at stuff. I thought of the little Beretta tip barrel models. Her having it on her and knowing how to fire it are primary to stopping power and effectiveness, in my view. To me under 20 oz. and not too large would seem important. This is to be her "purse" protector, not a "truck" or "house" gun. We have those covered better. It has to be HER'S, and her choice too.

The trigger pull is horrendous and due to the hammer being almost non existent and super lightweight non steel material it requires a heavy trigger pull/hammer fall to set the cartridge off. And not much you can do to lighten the trigger pull. We seldom carry them as we ALWAYS get them back with complaints that the wife/daughter can't pull the trigger.

No reason at all a hefty chunk of steel could not be used and a totally reliable and practical solution found. I’d just bet it would add an ounce or less!

I’ve never owned a hammerless revolver. I do like that S&W hump back airweight M638. It’s a concealed hammer version!

..hammer shroud grips with same profile as M638. Maybe they still do, or some may be around somewhere on the web.
Bobbing the hammer spur is an option but I don't know if the reduced hammer weight affects reliability.

to be 100% reliable unless you leave the super heavy hammer spring in there. I probably do 50 or more action jobs on S&W revolvers thru the year and know they will be reliable but I really hesitate even touching one of the smaller Smith revolvers. Quite often one coil less on the hammer spring will cause misfires. The small frame Taurus' revolvers are just as prone to have misfire problems too.
On any revolver I like to take every part out, polish it on the wheel until it is too hot to hold, then put some Rig 2 grease on the hammer and trigger and let it sit for a bit. The hot metal absorbs some of the grease giving it almost a permanent smooth slick surface. I also touch up the pins that the hammer and trigger ride on and make them as smooth as possible. The rest of the internals get a high polish job while I am at it. Quite often just doing that will reduce the trigger pull as much if not more than changing springs. It takes much longer, usually 2 to 3 hours but is well worth it.

I'VE GOT ONE

CHARTER ARMS ON DUTY SWEPT BACK HAMMER IS PRETTY GOOD NOT A GREAT PIECE BUT I'VE HAD IT FOR QUITE A WHILE & IT DOES THE JOB

It was a .22 WMR Pathfinder. I made some good money on it as it was a very desirable model. But I don't think I ever even shot it. We had some little semi-auto Charter .22, like a Broomhandle Mauser, an off-branch of that survival rifle. It was fun.

Charter markets a very nice line of .32 mag. and .22 WMR self defense revolvers at a good price. Since they are carried way, way, more than shot extensively, how can you go wrong?! I've always wanted one of their "Son of Sam" .44 Specials with a 3".

Arms guns I have been on the lookout for one of the stainless 44 Specials. I think John said he had one stashed in each bathroom. Sounds like a good idea to me.

I shot a LCR .38 with +P ammo and it nearly skinned my palm! Call me a sissy, whatever, I don’t care. I’d rather shoot a box of .475 LB than that thing again! I see LOTS of .38 lCR for sale used, I know why too!

The .327 sounds great and six rounds too. I have a 100 yr. old Colt Pocket Positive in .32 New Police (.32 Long) that I may press into service for her. At least till I can get her to pick something out. The little Beretta Bobcat I looked at today. Too many buttons and it’s a little stiff for her I’d think. My little Kahr P.380 is about perfect but I’m not sure she can handle the slide. Stuff like that.

If makers could do a small light revolver in .32 ish caliber I think that would be a winner. A modern Colt Pocket Positive! I think Taurus has some new .380 revolver out. I’ll check it out too.

practice more with it and the 22 mag does more tissue damage than the 327. It doesn't have much recoil to speak of and less chance of her being scared of it.

with .22 mag self defense ammo. It would sometimes burst melons out of a 6 inch revolver where the normal ammo wpuld slip righ through and not expand.

I thought my hand could handle 38 plus Pish / 357 Target loads. Wrong! Full house 327 loads are manageable with the LCR. But I prefer to just shoot 32 magnums through it. I put the larger grip like on the LCR target models on it, would still fit a purse good. Bigger than a J Frame but does have a much better factory trigger. I assume the LCR rimfire models don't have as nice of a trigger but you never know? I like GNR's 22 mag idea.

to a Shield EZ. One of my older shooting buddies bought one because it was just getting too hard for him to manipulate the slides on small guns. I thought it had a good trigger.

I have a 631 S&W in 32 mag with 2" barrel that is solid and shoots easy. I don't know if you could find one at any reasonable price, though.

my Reeder Ultimate Hi Power, and shoots it way better than I would have been able to at that age (turned 19 in October).
