spent time in Arizona. It was where they learned to hunt and did most of their growing up. Uncle Jim also thought highly of the 243 and carried one to Brazil in the form of a Pre-64 Winchester model 70. It accounted for a bit of game in the Amazon basin as well as it had done up in the Arizona region. About as far apart in ecosystem types as you can imagine. Growing up in the Amazon basin, my dream was to one day shoot "the big gun", but life interfered and I never did realize that dream. Funny, I've never owned or shot a 243 to this day.

Anyway, thanks for sharing the story. I can visualize it quite well. Dad made sure that we got to see what he considered the most beautiful area in the world - Arizona. As a kid it didn't seem that pretty (no water!) but now I understand some of that mystique.
