Ahh yes Coolidge...My Dad was a tanker pilot, flew on the wildfires. One of his station bases was there. At 16 I started mixing fire retardant to refill the planes. I can remember several days over 120*, probably close to 140 in the sun and on the black asphalt mixing retardant. The pilots would have to put blankets over the controls so they would even be able to touch them when dispatched to a fire.
At 19 I was lucky enough to be sitting in the right seat flying co-pilot with him in B-17's and C-119's. A lot of time on fires in the Superstitions.
