Goofy shotgun fun.

First off I got a heck of a discounted deal on the nifty Hunter Orange Mag-pul furniture for my 870. Only later did I find that at least in Police circles that is typically reserved for "less Lethal" ordinance. Whoops! I'll paint it another color one day. Maybe pink.

I have been modding this old 1100. I traded the 30" VT full magnum barrel as I did not want to destroy a "good" useful barrel. This 30" 2-3/4" full barrel was shot with steel shot. It was on an original 1963 shotgun. About 4" from the muzzle you can't really see it but you can feel a little bulge. I feel better about the prospect of chopping the tube to my suit. The 870 has a custom 23.5" barrel and screw chokes. I'd not call it compact, it's more handy. But the 9-shot extension fits under it nicely.

I'm looking at either 18" or a 20" chop. My plans are to put a high-vis front sight back on it. The 20" would allow a 2-3 shot extension but I'd probably not do that, 5 is plenty so I'm leaning more 18". It's silly but a short barrel with a front sight reinstalled is worth more than a 30" full choke plain barrel.

*Excuse the Porcupine eggs scattered about. A real nuisance.

Vang Comp makes a nice little 1-shot extension

if you are going for short but would like a little extra capacity.

I just stick to my old Model 12 with 6+1 in military riot gun length. For short, I have a Mossberg Cruiser. The Model 12 was bought at last table at gunshow exit as I was leaving, for a fast $200 with (truly) value added Cutts which was sold for $100 after cutting it off (which I believe is the origin of the name).

I really like that M12. So classic and still good

I've got a crap load of goofy shotguns. I'm just looking for stuff to goof with.

The M12 was mainly bought to goof with, as well. But,

it IS fun to hold the trigger back and pump like hell.

The above mentioned Wilson extension is good, both it and the Vang are steel and heavy duty. The Vang comes with a stainless machined follower, Wilson is aluminum. The Wilson is sold with heavy sling plate and sold as right or left hand, the Vang also has a plate but is reversible or removable, which I THINK is impossible with the Wilson. Both companies are currently out of stock.

As for safety orange stocks, quite a few hunters

use them to forestall adding to the woods clutter of black and camo rusty guns littering forests nowadays. You can soak plastic in hot Ritt dyes and get halfway decent surface penetration, where paint on plastic appears ratty fairly easily due to poor adhesion.

Yeah Ceracote or a like material would be best.

I don't think a good bake a a bit lower temp would hurt it too much.

As to painting normally. It has a little texture, maybe wash with denatured alcohol and use that special plastic paint for patio furniture. I dunno. It would last a while I figure.

Sounds good to me. I thought about plastic paints

only after pressing send. Have seen some remarkable camo effects with dyes on plastic knife handles, But you would need a larger tray/tank for a stock, more trouble than I would want to go through. Paint sounds far easier. Orange would not bother me for field or self defense, but surely would make it hard to be low viz in a car/truck and would end up a theft magnet.

Wilson combat makes or sells a very nice one shot extension which I have on my 870. It comes with a new spring and lime color follower. They have a 2 shot as well.
Thankfully you know about the less lethal coloring of your furniture and I would second repainting it.
Gone are the days of finding a trash can in the corner of the gun shop filled with shotgun barrels of various types and a sign “your choice $20”. That’s how I got a slug barrel with rifle sights for my 1100 LT20.
Also doubt I could walk into the main office at Mossberg and tell them I wanted to shoot skeet with the S/G in my cruiser - fellow went in the back and came out with a 28” barrel charged me $15.00.

Oh Yeah, that LT20 Slug tube is $350-500 now.
