You fill out a yellow sheet, go to the range, fire a few rounds. The rig ain't what you thought it was. Sell it to another guy at the range who wants to try it. No record of transaction. You are only liable that he was of legal age and a resident of the state. IF it ever came to that, and how would it? As long as it was not a straw purchase. There goes those ATF records, you can wipe your butt with them is about it. You don't even have to remember who it was. They all can piss right off.

I thought that if you went through an FFL the records were kept by the FFL.
Unless he went out of business the records stay with him.
Virginia has gotten real pissy about transfers even loans and gifts to relatives.

was sold stays with the FFL. The ATF only has a record of the approval.denial and what was sold pistol or long gun. And that I think they can only retain for 6 mos. That may have changed. Now, they may be referring to what has been turned in for records by former FFL holders. However that number is dubious to me at best.

NICS check what gun was sold, only that it is either a long gun or handgun or action. They also do not get the address of the person buying the gun, only the state in which he lives. If we go out of business or sell the gun shop the 4473 forms are boxed up and sent to a warehouse in West Virginia where they sit and rot. Shortly after we moved here from Florida we got a call from the ATF wanting us to trace a gun (a Desert Eagle) that we sold when our shop was in Florida and was used in a crime. We told them we had done what was expected of us and the records were in boxes in that warehouse in WV. The AFT agent said no problem. They just marked it as no info found.
The only folks that would be affected by this are those in the north-eastern states where the gun is registered. You guys are screwed if any confiscation is enacted. You can't even say you sold it at a gun show.
The other side of this is I think this is just a scare tactic of Fug Joe Biden. This may stop people from buying guns, maybe. We don't know "what evil lurks in the minds of men" or even the minds of liberals, what little minds they have.

in theory you could buy 6 guns and only do 2 4473s and the people at NICS don't ask how many guns. They ask how many transactions but that means how many 4473s are you calling in at that time or how many people are standing in line waiting for you to call them in. And if you have a CCW we don't have to call you in and your name is not on some yoyo's list. This in itself is another reason to get your concealed weapons permit.
