1911

I am a fan of the 1911 .45 ACP. For me, it is the epitome of semi-auto handgun design. Yes, others have been made that don't have as many parts and where the internals function differently. But as far as I am concerned, they never "improved" it. Now you don't have to agree with me. I am not trying to convince you of the superiority of the 1911 design. These are just my own personal opinions and no one need support them.

I like the gun just the way it was designed. Over the years there have been a multitude of aftermarket parts such as the beavertail grip safety, the ambidextrous safety, extended slide release, various kinds of sights and lights and other bells and whistles you can add to it. I like the gun just like it was designed. I learned how to run it with either hand without adding anything to it. I learned how to shoot it with the sights that came on it .. even doing long range shooting out to 400 yards or so. As far as I am concerned it does not need improved.

And then I pick up my Shootists Ruger SR1911 with its beavertail grip safety and the Commander-type hammer and the extended thumb safety and the adjustable trigger and the 3-dot sights and the flat mainspring housing and boy! Does that ever feel nice in the hand!

Top tier shooters may run a drill 1/2 sec faster with a racegun, but little difference for most shooters as for speed, but comfort means a LOT.

I use bone stock, but only due to less sticking out for concealment.
