that stainless won't rust. Stainless is not rustless. It won't stain but it will rust. I got this gun from a friend today who said he thought it had a little rust on the gripframe. When I took the wood grips off there sure enough was a little rust on the gripframe.

If you have a stainless or blue gun with wood grips and you haven't checked it lately, do so when you can. You might be surprised.

It is stain less not stain FREE

I've seen some stainless corroded badly with black powder ..

on the side. Bugged me every time I saw it! I thought stainless didn't rust...30 years ago.

The only Gun I ever owned that rusted on me was a 629

Rusted under the grips like the grip in your picture.

Has to do with the metalurgy..

I worked in a SS/Titanium steel production plant that produced dozens of different types of stainless steels for many applications. The stronger steels required for gun making, sports equipment, etc. are exposed to the elements and will rust. Iron gives strength, Chromium acts as the stainless or low/no rust at the sacrifice of strength.
