Made a quick jaunt to one of my chuck places today. One of the first days above freezing in awhile (46*).

I usually like to try and take one chuck early in the year while we are still having cooler temps for the pot. After that they are left until mid April or so to let the pups get on their own.

And of course the 7 GNR with it's new cast bullet and load was chosen to go. As it will be all season long.

This spot with all the cement chunks and on a steep hill side is perfect habitat for them. The farmer (my sil) would really like if we killed them all, but enough for good repopulation is always left.[image]

there we will see some fresh dirt dug out in the middle of the snow where the prairie dogs are cleaning out their dens. They will be out pretty soon but the anti hunters have stopped us from shooting any of them until the middle of the summer. There is now a season on them that starts sometime around mid summer.
