how about a questionnaire about calibers?

If the brown matter were to hit the fan and you have to get by (hunting and home protection) with one gun for hunting and one for home protection, what would they be? Think hard on this one as it may be closer than any of us think. What are your 2 choices? I have more 22 Magnum rifles and pistols than should be allowed and I would go with a pistol and rifle in that caliber.

For hunting, my 300wsm and defense, my ar pistol in 556

22M. The Colt was my first gun purchase, with my own money as a young man.

quite a few times since we were young. Happy to say the OMSS and I both look about the same age. Most guns are not so considerate, but then I was not considerate to it, swimming, sliding down muddy mountains, camping in rain, wading swamps, etc. It's my pal. Glad to hear you two are still pals, too.

Important to me. Easy these days to acquire black polymer, not so much good revolvers. I got started with Reeder Custom Guns back when Gary did gun shows in Phoenix. I sent him back to Flagstaff with a 41 mag. Ruger Blackhawk to put a Bisley gripframe on it. I keep that gun holstered on a hat rack next to my reading chair.

ditto as for room/weight carrying lots and lots of reloads. The capabilities in making meat need no justification by me.

as well as I can shoot anything, anymore. This is 10rds of SuperX and 10rds of MaxiMagHP at 50yds from the OMSS. The SuperX is the only one which expands at 15ft on a gallon jug from the OMSS. On the 50yd target the SuperX also cut cleaner holes, the ones with white border, mostly. The ZKM does under 1.5"@100yds with either. Likely would do 1" with pointy 30gr loads, but I stick with my old standbyes.

Single Six Hunter has 22 Lr and wmr cylinders. My Ruger American in 22 WMR for a long Gun. I have a good stockpile of both rounds. The 22 wmr will take any game available here in Alabama with a well placed shot.

that is very accurate and the Kel Tec 22 mag pistol, also very reliable and accurate. I also have a S&W model 48 with scope. I am going to have a hard time choosing. A few CZ 22 mags too, model 455 and 512. Maybe I need to change the rules and allow 3 or 4 of each..

actions and lever guns in the safe. I would want a semi or pump action. NY has a 10 round magazine limit, so I'm sure no law abiding citizen has any mags that were pre ban. A kel-tec ksg would be a good choice stoked with mini shells, holding 24 rounds. Quieter than full size ammo too. If out harvesting game, one quieter shot would be less chance of getting in a controversy with another game harvester. For a sidearm, a favorite ruger mark would do it.

If the SHTF occurs there will be a panic. Many people will clog the main roads to go north to northern Maine, Vermont or New Hampshire. Some have summer homes and camps others will boondock it.

I'm thinking of my Colt HBAR. It can do double duty for defense and hunting. I know the 223 round isn't ideal but in my honest opinion the greatest danger will be what we call the "Golden Horde". There will be another exodus. One of people who think there is food in the "country". That is quoted as it really means suburbia.

My side arm if I had just one would be a 9mm autoloader. Again I like , no wait, I love the 22 WRM. I love carrying my TC Contender and SS in both caliber roaming some of the hills in the Bay State.

But in such a setting the main issue will be defense in the case of social unrest.

I can see scenarios for so many different guns and calibers. But SHTF means two legged evil doers. I can provide with a 39 Golden but it isn’t enough for bad guys. My Savage 93 22WRM is also minute of eye ball at 100 yards but not enough capacity. My PMR-30 has capacity but no knock down. I have to go with my precision AR in 6.8 SPC it’s good for anything in these parts and accurate enough for squirrel heads.. I feel at ease with my Dan Wesson 15-2 pistol pac but even so with a 1911, Model 57 and SBH 41 mag. Just because of the marauding bears in the area I’ll pack my SBH on my hip.

An AR-15 in .223 for sure and a .22LR
