Not many grizzlies around during mushing season.
I grew up not far from Salcha. If memory serves me correctly the musher that showed up to help Susan was carrying a 44 mag revolver. Many mushers carry a gun large enough to handle a moose. In fact that's a primary reason for carrying a gun on the mushing trail. I've never heard of any musher worried about their larger caliber gun just going off until this lady.
