Reeder Custom Guns - Reloading Day

Been reloading some .45 Colts today with my favorite bullet for the .45 Colt .. the Keith 260 gr. SWC. I cast these with the RCBS mold.

The above are loaded with 8.0 gr. Unique.

I have loaded ammo on hand with various bullets:

255 gr. RNFP that I purchased many years ago .. I forget from who ..

These are loaded with 6 gr. 700X. I find the shotgun powders work really well for standard velocity loads in the .45 Colt .. and the 44 Special ... and the .38 Special .. and ...

These are the Lee 225 gr. RN .45 ACP bullet. Pretty accurate bullet.

These are loaded with 8.0 gr. Green Dot.

I have some heavy .45 Colt loads. Don't care to shoot them much any more. I shot a ton of these back in the day ....

These the Lyman #457191 sized to .452" and loaded with heavy loads of either 2400 or H110.

Fun stuff .. the old .45 Colt still does it!

Garza Front sight. I added Super B hammer, Belt Mtn Base pin and Tony Kojis made the mesquite grips. Here is the copmanion .44 Special

the Vaquero to start with

widened the groove down the top strap and fit the S&W sight to it.

tapered the top of the frame to fit the sides of the rear sight.

The small screw in front was just there to hold the sight in while we tapered the frame.

we cut the 2 gold bands on the barrel and the cylinders and soldered on the interchangeable blade front sight.

From there it went to the normal buffing and polishing before going to the bluing tank.

44 Special data over the weekend. With all the shortages I try to be frugal (for the first time in my life) and used 12 grains of Blue Dot instead of 18 grains of another powder that shows the same velocities (1100 fps) with a 240 grain lead gas check.

everything from 240 - 300 gr, just depends on the bullet and the primer for what the gun likes. With certain bullets I can get 1000+ out of a 4 5/8" barrel ruger and will do anything I need. With a 240 gr I get a bit more but more than enough to kill deer/hogs and even elk.

I use 10gr of Unique for a lot of my 44 mag loads
