With the 23rd TFW FLYING TIGERS for 14 years I can tell you that that platform has aerial kills with the 30 mm and AIM Air to air missiles. It carries lots of defensive equipment to fend off missiles from the ground and air. The Ukrainians still have aircraft flying and the Russians don’t have total air superiority. Even on the first day of bombing Iraq during the first gulf war the A10 did not have escorts.

Amen, the Ukraine AF has fighters and

the A-10 isn't just a close air support platform, it can protect itself and has extensive thick armor. Get the A-10s there and watch them work. They can take out heavy armor quick and leave behind burning hulks of hot metal.

to stir the pot.

I've seen the A-10s in action, they can handle things (with good pilots), with or without "fighter cover". Fighter cover is a definite preference. Put together a couple strafing runs with 2 or 3 squadrons and that 40-mile long Russian convoy 15 miles outside Kyiv is toast.
