The people in Ukraine have to leave their homes to survive. If that situation were to hit here and homes all around you had been shelled and you HAD TO leave your home and make it on your own (in this scenario you are by yourself and it is summer...makes it easy on your answers). So you can't take 5 or 6 guns with you nor can you take your reloading gear and no way to carry 5000 rounds of ammo, so 2 guns are the limit. What 2 guns would you take? Keep it sensible now, no Barrett 50 cal and 3000 yard scope set up. Your ass is puckered up and you don't have time to sit down and think things over, You have to grab 2 guns and the ammo for them. What would they be?
Maybe I should go before the 22mag

Snipers get going…An AR in 5.56 and a high capacity 9mm like a beretta 92 to conceal. Maybe it’s that simple? Ammo resupply easier. A suppressed 22 Lr pistol would be nice to find though…
A good .22 rifle with brick of ammo and 1911 .45

I can use the .22 to get rocket launchers, or a tank. Come back with lots of booty. Viva la Resistance'. A 10/22 with suppressor and good optic could do wonders. I can hit a golf ball at 100 yds. A 9mm would be nice but I'd rather have the .45 to fetch me one. Hit and run, hide.
My .357 with 9mm cylinder would be a nice option.
While I would also have a 22, as a third gun,

I wouldn't go after a tank with it. Stick with NATO ammo (5.56 and 9mm) for your main weapons.
Easy. G19 and an AR in 223

308 with a 4x12 scope on it. That was my first thought. Sit on a hill and pot shot the bad guys but ammo wouldn't be that obtainable for the 308. So I guess a good AR-15 in 223/5.56 with quick detachable scope and a longslide 22LR with suppressor with as much ammo as I could carry. There are a lot of other things that would be needed to survive but those 2 would help me to get thru the first couple of days.
AR and a 1911. Ammo can full for both

It must harken back to the Revolutionary war era Pennsylvania long rifle. Carry lots of ammo, frugal, light, handy, accurate, effective. Perhaps our American heritage got it somehow entwined with our DNA.

I read an an article in the American rifleman a while back about a 39A that a 16 year old philipino used to kill 6 japs with during WW2. Not bad for the lowly .22.

of the two choices would be a Ruger Single Six that Gary worked over. I know the 22 WRM isn't the best "manstopper" but this would be used more for foraging and last ditch self defense.
The main gun would be a Remington M700 bolt action in 3006. A good all-around gun for any game or serious threat.
What I would have on me:

And likely never will. My idea of a personal defense rifle is a lever gun. I would take my scoped 16” 336 Marlin in 256 Falcon. I have a few 100 rounds loaded for it and a 1911 45. Also have lots of loaded ammo on hand for it. With that I could likely come up with something active military if I stayed alive long enough to run out of ammo.

A lady or youngster can handle one due to no recoil. They have magazines up to 90 rounds. They are plenty accurate for self defense, ammo for the AR, 223 or 5.56 is plentiful and would be so during a SHTF situation. They are simple and seldom have major problems. I shot in the 3 gun combat matches for years and I don't ever remember having any failures of any kind with either my Colt or my Armalite. Like I say I am not a fan of the gun but they make sense and would feel like I am neglecting my family if I didn't have a couple. Nuff said.
ARs absolutely make sense

my AR-15. The K-22 can provide meat for the fire and the AR-15 can help keep people with bad intentions at bay. Remember guys....my truck is always ready for me to exit stage right and be prepared for most things I might encounter. This might not be a bad time make sure you’re prepared....I’d rather be Noah instead of his critics.

It's not what you have but what you are willing to do with the resources at hand. In WWII didn't we deliver stamped sheet metal single shot .45acp pistols for people to use to resist? Use one round to obtain what you need to continue the fight. Optimum? Absolutely not. It's not the hardware, it's the man that uses it. Look what happened in Vietnam; a populace that used two sticks to pick up one grain of rice and one stick to carry two buckets of shit kept us busy for a long time. (Now of course there were many other factors, but keeping it simple for Misfits.) Read the article below about Captain John Hinson, different time, same idea:

and 9mm. I would carry my 270 bolt gun and 218 Bee Marlin or 25/20 that are real shooters, with a 1911 45 acp. I live up against the National forest so if I lose my cabin I have caves. I stashed a tent and provisions in one of them. If the boy was bigger I’d have him pack the Marlin 39 Golden too.
How many men have you killed, Gary?
