I’m heading to the hospital with the wife tomorrow morning where she has a minor procedure scheduled. Since I have to wait in the car because of the stupid covid nonsense, I figured I would bring along something to read and came across the above titled ebook. So, how far did you get in the book?

I’m about 40% through it. It’s very interesting reading about the sheer abundance of game then. One of the expeditions talks about him getting 12,000 of Ivory - with a black powder rifle! One outing netted 95 elephants.

He quit because of the scarcity of game - and then the more famous hunters came on the scene.

Kind of reminds me of when I quit hunting in the Amazon basin. I could see many species going the way of the US Bison, and a few the way of the dodo. But that hasn't stopped others from decimating and decimating and decimating until there's not much left in many areas. Humans don't tend to learn (as a group) the lessons taught by the past so keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again.

got some of the old classics published and was in large responsible for a resurgence in African sport hunting. I have his hard copy book of this title in my library collection.
