Just some odds and ends of things laying around ..

This is a target velocity .22 Long Rifle that I flat-nosed back in 1982. One night the Javelina were fighting in the yard and waking up the babies so I stepped out with my single-shot .22 rifle and fired amongst them. One fell over while the rest ran off. The next day I butchered it so we could eat it and found the bullet had gone in the left side behind the shoulder, through the heart and stopped under the hide on the other side. That's the recovered bullet.

.41 Magnum 210 gr. XTP that stopped a cow elk at one of the HHI's that Gary invited me to .. back in 2014. Bullet went in through the left side ribs and lungs and stopped in the hide on the right. It did not lose much weight either. Running around 1400 fps ... the shot was 90 yards or a bit less.

Cast bullet test in the .41 Magnum.

I wanted to see how well the taper crimp worked in the .45 ACP. I used a Large Rifle Primer and no powder, seated and crimped the bullets and fired one. The bullet stopped an inch or so up the bore. I drove it out and fired the next with the same results.

To test the hardness of a bullet - if you don't have a lead hardness tester - put a known hardness bullet nose to nose with the one you want to test in vise ... screw the vise down. The hard bullet will distort the soft one. With these .45 jacketed bullets I wanted to see how the plated bullet held up against a regular jacketed bullet. From the photo you can tell it did not hold up.

My old round ball shotgun load. In the 12 ga. I used a .720" diameter round ball cast of wheelweights. It weighed about 550 grains. I loaded them in Winchester AA hulls, cutting the petals off the wad. I used 28 gr. of Unique for over 1300 fps. They were hard on the shoulder. They were harder on whatever they hit. I fired one into a 12" by 12" douglas fir mine timber and it cracked the other side. It did not quite exit but it was close. The shotgun would put them in around 4" at 50 yards if you could stand to fire it from the bench. I did have express sights on the shotgun.
