Cast bullets with and without a gas check

My recently acquired Lee mould is made for a 358 SWC gas check bullet . Will I suffer a loss of accuracy if I shoot them in a 38 Special without gas checks?
YOU WON'T KNOW UNTIL

YOU TRY THEM
Like John says, you'll have to shoot

some and find out. If your bullet fit is good you should be able to get regular plain base velocities.
Ditto. What is going on with gasses

is changed. Where typically the base of a bullet as it leaves the barrel rifling crown emits gas evenly and smoothly to ensure the bullet continues to fly true. When the crown is boogered this even flow is disrupted and the bullet base can be tripped up some. Sort of like what me throwing a football looks like. I never could get that "spiral" throw figured out.
Not using a check on a gas check bullet de-facto moves the bullet "base" up to the bottom driving band. That is "now" the base where gas has to smoothly escape as the bullet exits the bore. Sometimes it does and then maybe not. Depends on the bullet design and how it manages this. Teeny grooves like like some of the LEE designs might not work so good then an old heavy banded Keith or Thompson design might shoot as well as no gas check. Then one more factor, the bore, might iron all things out and force it to work fine.
*You should see my bow shooting arrow's release too, that would be a good analogy! Wobble ass.
In my experience and limited ability, at short range, I can't really tell the difference with a .38 wheelgun. It sometimes seems a waste of checks doesn't it?!

Thanks WB for the explanation. I acquired a used 158 grain Lee SWC double cavity mold. I casted and shot a batch of bullets years ago and used gas checks. I shot the entire batch of 500 or so in my 8 inch Python. I plan to cast some more bullets, but have no gas checks left. I thought I might ask about the accuracy without gas checks. I don't hot rod my Python. I'll load and shoot 50 or so to see how things go.
Thanks WB for taking the time to answer my question.
