combat 9mm? I'm personally shocked to find I actually like the Beretta 92 to a large degree. I always liked the fact they have been making guns since the 1500's. Everyone in my family, ladies and all, can shoot it very well. I never wanted to like it but I have to confess. It's metal too, feels like a "real" gun. I also have Glocks, but as good and reliable as they are I don't really like them other than their dependability. I tend to pull left with them unless I stay fresh.
I've looked at upgrading my old 92A1 to a 92X RDO with slimmer and better grip angle, and ability to mount red dot. I also have given the plastic frame SIG 320X series a hard look. The Sig is $100 more but has much better sights and an extra 17/21 rnd. mag. Remember all these improved autos came out of the military trial efforts a few year's ago.
What are ya'll running for a big 9? (yes I have old hat autos too, and love them all)

fancy boutique shop guns. Why spend deep four figures on gun work and it looks like a flat chested super-model. I want Dolly! Boom! People ask WHAT is that in your belt (?!), from across the room.
Reeder Black Chromex is still the best blue I know of.
thanks Scotty. I enjoy building custom Hi Powers. And

the good part is very few custom gun guys will touch the BHPs. We bought 64 of them from the Israelis and their Israeli Defense Force and made custom BHPs out of every one of them. A couple of new versions of the BHP are out now. The best, in my opinion, is the FN. After all they have been building the BHP since the late 1930s.

I have a SW Sd9VE for a car / truck gun, and Taurus 709 and G2s for ccw use. I have been wanting a full size 9 for a while and have been looking at the Beretta 92 X / M9 A4 A3 champion myself.
I'm leaning more to a Da/Sa full size 9mm. SAR makes a clone also , of the CZ 75 I think.
Ethan is looking at the Sig 320 M17 / 18, and the Walther PDP.
Will be good to see what folks here are using a big 9mm.
Thanks for getting this thread going WB!

Sig 226

I like the Sig 226. I consider it to be the best full size 9mm combat pistol available today. Reliable to the extreme. Accurate. Great single action trigger and good double action trigger. Great ergonomics. Excellent sights. If someone told me that I was going to be in a gun fight tomorrow and could only have a handgun, it would be a Sig 226 with Mecgar 18 round magazines....
My two cents....
I had a 226, big and soft shooting. Had the smaller 229 too

On both I have trouble reaching the DA trigger, small hands. They make a "set-back" trigger for them so I'm not the only one without big German hands. I like the 228 too, it is just stamped and welded slide ends, more old school. Basically same gun as 229. Welded ends wouldn't handle .40 S&W pounding so they developed the 229.
226 / 228 trigger reach...

I too find the trigger reach on the Sig 226 / 228 to be a bit long. There are two ways to deal with this. One is to replace the trigger with a Sig short trigger. The other (and easiest) way to to replace the rather fat factory grips with the much slimmer Hogue G10 grips. I've replaced all of my 226 / 228 grips with these and it makes a world of difference in both the trigger reach and the feel of the gun. The Hogue G10 grips make the guns feel and handle so much better to me...

The overhead fire control trigger bar does not seem to be copied anywhere. When Springfield SA35's get down to close to retail I may have to get one. The list is $750 and They are now "down" to about $1000. Maybe in another year the hoopla will die down and a few used examples will be on market.
