I once shot the couch. Actually part of my training worked, it was a "SAFE" direction. It discharged because I pulled the trigger, just like it is supposed to do. The .380 Hornady Critical Defense projectile made a neat .35 hole in the leather, through the cushion and frame, one 2" oak board on the chassis, to then hit the vinyl plank flooring at an angle. The bullet then turned and made about a 100 deg. change in direction to the left. It landed on the kitchen stove right in front of my wife who was cooking dinner. The bullet's nose was smeared a bit but no expansion and the red rubber tip was still in place. So much for the performance of the $2 a shot ammo, it does look cool, and offers good penetration.
I immediately hollered I was ok, and that it was my stupid fault. Also I pointed out the accident happened in a safe direction as I had always been trained. My wife is also a shooter, the situation was quickly put to rest, and is an embarrassing family story on my part. It will never be forgotten.

I'll confess, but only for the scientific study of it.
