For those that may be interested in
an average shooter's thoughts on comparison. I was looking at the Beretta 92X variation and the SIG 320X full size. Both have several variations with different features. At the LGS I was able to compare the two. As much as I wanted to I'm not real excited about the SIG, as good as it is. It just feels like an upgraded M&P for more money. The action and that flat faced trigger is very good. Better than most. It just does not feel like the value for the money spent. Like Glock, it's more of a simple tool, that no doubt works. The ergonomics were great and the reach was perfect for my smaller hands. The modular things may be fun too for those so inclined.
I also handled one of those fancy Performance Beretta's at around $1400. I did not like at all for my purposes. It was HEAVY, felt like a Super Blackhawk as it has a STEEL frame. Add 18 rounds of 147 gr. 9mm and what a boat anchor! Super quality but it's a competition gun, not what you want hanging off your pants. Fantastic competition gun no doubt.
I got to look over a 92X RDO. Beretta fixed many things I needed. The grip angle is great and thinning those ridiculous fat grips did wonders. I can reach the DA trigger perfectly. The optic accommodation is well executed. While the sights are an improvement on this model they could be better. The back is a non-glare black, front is a high glow red. I'm more of a green guy. But they are dovetailed and replaceable/adjustable. For $250 MORE you can get one with a third 18-rnd mag., superb over the top sights, and a threaded barrel. Of course that is what you pay for. Plus it's FDE. I kind of like black autos.
I'm contemplating selling a really nice Kahr PM9 kit with holster, mags, and TLR-6 light/laser, to help me along. Keeping my Kahr P380 and PM45. I seem to use those two a lot and many times carry both! If I work it right, I can keep my other two Beretta's too, and tinker with them. I am really leaning toward the Beretta in some form right now. It works for me, the open top slide, and alloy frame, all add up to a gun that feels worth what I am paying. It has some enjoyable character that plastic wonder guns miss. I've never experienced one that was less than reliable nor lacking in accuracy. Even ladies like them.
