Gary,
What bases do you use on your barrels for scope mounting?

I never use anything except Leupold and their dual dovetail

rings. There is no way the rings can come loose. The Leupold system is the best handgun system made. I use a small amount of 2 part epoxy under the base (stay away from the screw holes) and I use red Lok Tite on the base screws. This way I never have problems with the bases or rings coming loose.

I've tried hot glue in place of Epoxy too

I think I might like it even better. Both peel right off if you want it to.

If you have to go with a Picatinny type base I like steel ones. While I've used bunches of aluminum Weavers in the past, steel has to be better. The heat expansion on aluminum is different than steel so that has to be a factor. If only in principle. The DDT is not going anywhere.
