I bought a 308 ME from my brother cheap that wouldn’t Singtel in and it had a canted barrel. Made in 2008. Sent it off to a smith and had it fixed. It’s a great rifle now. Had bought an internet sale 357 CSS 1894 that the front sight was on off to the side and the butt stock fit was awful. Had sent to smith to have fixed. It was made 2009. I know lots of folks that had issues with REP made Marlin’s from 2008-2017 who had lots of issues. I’ve owned one that didn’t and it is a 1894 SS in 44 mag.

I own almost 50 Marlin’s of all kinds of models and by far the quality of a JM is better. I’ve only replaced two ejectors and a firing pin on an 1894 38/40 that’s over 120 years old. The only other issue was feeding of a 1894 FG 41 mag that needed some finessing of the carrier. Oh, one more a 336/44 mag also carrier and mag tube finessing but they are known for this problem that’s why they were made only three years. The 44 mag is just to short a case for the 336 action.

I bought all of these knowing they had issues and saved quite a few bucks.

The workmanship of the REP Marlins was awful for most of of there ownership. I am not saying all the firearms they made were not good useful guns. I’m saying a lot of them were and the word spread. Yes, some jack asses that don’t know a finger lever from hammer spring don’t talk out there butts.

Besides bean counter mismanagement and lack of QC lead to serious sales drop offs in all of there lines. Yes, they had issues with old machines and experience with them but they had issues with bolt rifles and 1911’s and other stuff. How can you have issues with a 1911 that other companies have been building for 100 years and not get it right. No when they sold out the last time bean counters ruined it. It was probably done purposefully. Heck they had issues with AR’s.

“JM” only means it wasn’t built by Remington or the group that owned them I should say. Let me say that I personally know two people who worked under the old Marlin and transferred to the new and one was an engineer. I’m also a moderator on a Marlin blog and a member for many years. Thousands of owners through the years speak there mind.
