Anyone ever work with Heffron Precision in Iowa?

On what you want done. I’m wanting just a tightening of the hand function (timing) and no tuning on the trigger pulls, just reliability. It’s good enough as is. You figure nobody does anything for less than $100 for their time these days so I’m probably somewhere in between.

Finding ANYBODY that is reputed to be competent on Colts is hard enough, much less actually a supposedly master trained specialist.

They don't quite index the cylinder for the bolt to pop in the cylinder notch, until you actually pull the trigger. That last movement pops the lockwork into place and holds it. I was taught by an old 'Smith how to "stretch" a Colt hand. Basically you peen it just a little, but in the exact right place, and I've broken them before too. The shelf on the hand does another couple functions as does the notch at the tip. It's shockingly complex and makes me give S&W a hat tip. That's a great little Colt and worth fixing up.

Over ATF rules, he said it was law I had to go through a licensed FFL to ship him a gun. I called BS and told him to show me the law. I typically provide two forms of photo ID. But he was a Yankee jerk who obviously had a hard ass ATF local guy.

I know all factory guns and many used guys ship with some flimsy gun lock. But I don’t think it’s federal law, I think as mentioned it’s a hat tip to liability. There is a difference. But if a guy has a “rule” in house and says so, I’m cool with that.

For the level of effort, skill, and time expended, there can’t be money in it. On the D-frames alone there are like six totally different grip frame styles. That’s not even the inner workings!

It gives me concern that one day far into the future that all Colt revolvers are destined to become curios or very fancy paperweights. What are we to do when all the craftsmen are gone?!
