We have 3 Encore frames and 3 G-2 frames that we shoot every barrel thru and make sure the barrels fit at least 2 of the frames. Hopefully. We had several new barrels we recently finished and we did a bunch of shooting with them this morning. On every one of them they fit one or maybe 2 frames but none fit all three. In fact only one of 7 barrels fit 2 frames. So TC, as much as I love the company, still has problems. One of the barrels, the 455 GNR that Andy Strauss bought only fit one frame. It fit just as smooth as silk, but wouldn't even go on the other 2 frames. Now with Andy it is probably no big deal as I have seen Andy shoot.
What this is getting to is we build our own barrels as we have since 1977 but use TC small parts and if you buy a TC barrel at a gun show or if you get one of our barrels, send me your frame so I can make sure the barrel fits the frame. If you have several older barrels and they all fit your frame, we won't mess with the frame, just make the barrel fit the frame. This problem has only cropped up in the last few years. Before that we could buy a used barrel at a gun show and they always dropped right on our frame, no problems.
I sure hope somebody that is a hunter and hopefully a handgun hunter buys TC and gets them back in shape. One of the finest handgun manufacturers in the country and I would really hate to see them be written off as a loss.

I'd love for an engineer to explain, how with all the technology in CNC machining and production, how something from 1967 could be so screwed up by 2018 or so?! How big a cluster #$@* crew do you have to assemble, to mess something so down and sorted, all amiss?

Twice and get a response that they are coming and a huge number have been presold. Never an expected delivery date. I am leery of the possible quality and wonder where they are actually gonna be made?

machinist you know how things wear after use, tooling, ie check fixtures need to be updated to control tolerances. Gary's method of hand fitting is the best but not useful for mass production. Inspection come into the equation to determine when a product or process requires upgrading or replacement.
It used to amaze me when I would put out a drawing for a large assembly, how many changes it would take to the drawing to get to first production item, then we would look at the assembly fixture and see as many or more changes to it.
I do agree with you, one would think machining a block of steel into a frame should not have that many variables, but throw in a few other parts for an assembly and every additional part adds to the tolerance build up.
In my opinion the biggest issue is pride in your work, it just does not exist as much as it used to be present, a sad state of affairs for the american workforce.

PRIDE OF WORK IS ONE OF THE TOP ONES. I'M PROBABLY A LOT OLDER THAN YOU BUT I REVALL WHAT NO MATTER THE JOB OR TASK PRIDE OF OUTCOME WENT WITH IT. LONG GONE!
