Rolling around in afterbirth and goat pellets. We had (5) babies last night, all hands on deck. One, a new mommie, was in travail with a large kid with a bent knee that needed to be straightened out and the other Nanny had (4)! I was wanting to poke them back in! A situation since there are only two dinner spigots. My wife falls to pieces during the labor process so I have to step up, then she manages the rest where I am weak (medicating and all the details). That makes (7) so far this month. Something over thirty-five now.

We bottle-fed the runt and the mother goat handled the 3 OK.

will probably supplement for sure. One is certainly the runt, maybe 3 lbs. It was about the size of a good Red Squirrel. Little black and white girl.

Another nanny once had three and she picked out the weakest and instantly culled it. Pushed it away so the other two could survive. Cold, but nature in play. We bottle fed her, boy is she spoiled. All grown up now, the one atop the bale, Mindy! She's "different" lol.

She raises goats and brings about 8 kids to birthday parties and other events. She brings them all dressed up and hungry so the kids all get to bottle feed them and play with them. Very friendly and well mannered! My daughter had her over for Easter! Was quite fun!

I presume, as you seem to be close to them. Eating them after being their buddy would be like us eating our Jack Russells.

Not much meat on them, about 50-60 lbs. live weight. They only require half as much care or space too. A goat is a lot like a dog. Lots of character, but it eats briars and poison ivy.

was taking the $20 my in-laws sent to the boys and buying four goats with it. The first batch of kids died except for one blue billy. We neutered him and he grew up to provide some fine meals. The rest we let reproduce, had them in with a friend's flock so reproduction came naturally. After that first batch we didn't lose any more and when we sold them two years later we netted over $200. That made a nice little savings account for them and lasted way better than any toy or other typical birthday purchase.

I always wanted milk goats, but where we were there were none so meat goats it was. No place to keep them now that we live in the concrete jungle.

Thanks for sharing the pics. Sure do miss having livestock around.

We sell them. Half-size milkers. Milk, Cheese, Soap...

FYI - they bring $150 - $300 each, depending on traits
